Introduction to Shaping up for the hustle

THESE are the things that are actually stopping you, NOT the simple HOWs and WHEREs. 
Those actual practical difficulties are mere child’s play to overcome compared to the big spaghetti bowl of beliefs and self doubts that are really behind why you don’t book that thing, start that business, follow that dream, and generally step into your brilliantly shining power! 
So, now lets think about how this affects your more subtle aspirations, the desire to start that business you’ve always dreamt about, or to take that once in a life time trip to Polynesia, with your kids. 
If, like most people, you’ve been brought up to believe that ‘safe = good’ then it’s going to be rocking the hell out of your foundations to do something that your subconscious perceives as ‘unsafe’.

Now, we’ve all heard of the idea that this part of your brain is actually trying to do you a favour, er thanks NOT, it’s trying to stop you getting eaten by a lion, or from eating a particularly brightly coloured psychedelic mushroom, or the second we even get near the edge of our comfort zone. our brain says ‘NO. STOP. BAD!.’

When we hear that we close the tab with the ‘round the world flight prices’ and go back to watching Game of Thrones, and your subconscious heaves a huge sigh of relief, pats it’s self on the back for keeping you safe, and waits for the next time you try to break out of planet normal. You, meanwhile have a strange feeling that the slight tingle of adrenaline you had in that second of ‘what if’ could have been the first line in a massively exciting chapter of your life, but you also ‘know’ ( because your scaredy-cat subconscious screamed it at you ) that by not doing it, you are a good, safe, bullet dodging person.

So, I want to take you back to that moment when your skin started to tingle, to the moment when all those ‘what if’s’ and ‘perhaps’s I could’s‘ started to build up in your mind. Perhaps there’s a feeling of building momentum, the excitement grows, urging you on. It’s actually adrenaline, that famous ’flight or fight’ stuff, and then, just at the moment your about to take that leap, your subconscious brain get’s your conscious brain involved, it IS suddenly faced with a two way choice and generally that’s when the ‘break glass in case of emergency’ handbrake goes on. The voice in the Volvo ad wins and you take the safe option. Right?

So, what if you could teach yourself out of that knee jerk reaction? What if you did some ‘home work’ (we’ll come to that) and decided that actually all those fears are just Volvo adverts from the 90’s about safe people being better people and that actually you really REALLY want to book a one-way flight to Mumbai. Then all you’d need to do is take a running jump, close your eyes and fucking do it!! 
This is the simple and masterful art of ‘Don’t think, Just Jump’ … because there ain’t no subconscious going to stop you when you’ve already hit top speed and the wind is rushing past your ears. The power ballad is playing in your ears, the rent-a crowd is cheering. You’re still going to be hard core shitting-it scared because this is big, but that’s what makes it GREAT and that might just be the turning point of the rest of your wonderful life.
